Changes to immigration laws in 2025

Check out the latest changes to immigration law in 2025. This year has brought a number of significant changes to the regulations on legalising the stay and work of foreigners in Poland. The new regulations aim to simplify procedures, increase the protection of foreigners' rights and better adapt to the realities of the labour market. Check out what has changed and how it will affect your residence legalisation process.

Main changes

  • Online applications only
As of this year, all applications will be submitted exclusively via a new online system. This means the end of paper forms and long queues in offices. The entire process - from submitting the application to tracking the status of the case - is done online.
  • No labour market test
Employers no longer have to prove that they have not found a Polish employee for a given position. This is a big convenience for companies and foreigners - it allows them to obtain a work permit faster.
  • Mandatory employment contracts
An employment contract has become the basis for the employment of foreigners. Civil law contracts (e.g. commission) are only possible exceptionally, e.g. for seasonal work. This gives foreigners more stability and better social protection.
  • Higher penalties for illegal employment
The new legislation provides for harsher penalties for employers who employ foreigners illegally. Fines are much higher than before and inspections are more detailed.
  • Facilities for professionals
Simplified procedures have been introduced for highly skilled workers. Earnings requirements have been lowered and it is easier to change employers without the need for a new permit.
  • New support programmes
Foreigners can benefit from free Polish language courses, vocational training and integration programmes. Employers who support integration can count on additional financial support.

What does this mean in practice?

  • Faster paperwork - The electronic system allows you to submit your application faster and track its status.
  • Greater transparency - All requirements and information are available online.
  • Better protection of rights - An employment contract provides foreigners with greater certainty and security.
  • Facilities for companies - Employers can recruit professionals from abroad more quickly without unnecessary paperwork.
  • More development opportunities - New support programmes help foreigners to find their way better in Poland.

These changes are expected to make Poland an even more friendly place for people from abroad to live and work. If you are planning to legalise your stay or employ a foreigner, it is worth keeping up to date with the new regulations and using the online tools available.
